A new patient monitor has been purchased for the children’s ward at Bronglais Hospital, thanks to local donations.
The new IntelliVue MX450 monitor is already in use, helping to care for youngsters on Angharad ward in Aberystwyth.
The equipment was bought through donations to Hywel Dda Health Charities from a series of fund-raising events from residents throughout the year.
The monitor is a rapid, painless and non-invasive method of diagnosis, measuring heart rate and cardiac output.
Senior sister Louise Hughes said: “These monitors are of benefit to the child, as they enable closer monitoring to take place.
“By having this monitor, it gives us extra capacity and we are very grateful to families who think about us when they are fundraising.
“It makes a massive difference.”
Hywel Dda Health Charities is the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board.
The aim of the charity is to make a positive difference to the health, wellbeing and experience of NHS patients, service users and staff across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.
Every penny donated to Hywel Dda Health Charities goes to help patients and staff across the three counties.
A charity spokesperson said: “The generous charitable donations that we receive from patients, their families and our local communities do not replace NHS funding, but are used to provide services and activities above and beyond what the NHS can provide.”
