STAFF have welcomed their new temporary home for Pwllheli Dementia Services.

Service users and staff are benefitting from more spacious accommodation after their dementia day service moved to a former school in Y Ffôr.

The service, which was based on Ala Road for 25 years, has now moved temporarily to Hafod Lon, before moving into its permanent base at Ysbyty Bryn Beryl next year.

Violet Owen, healthcare assistant for the service, said: “We are delighted that our service has a new temporary home in Hafod Lon. This is a new start for us all, we now have a bigger space which will benefit those who use the service.

“We have wonderful memories from our time on Ala Road, we have met so many different people and made friends along the way.

“However, the building is very old and the facilities in the new building will provide us with a lot more space for our activities which will benefit our service users.”

The first phase of the refurbishment at Ysbyty Bryn Beryl begins this month and will be completed by the end of March 2019.

The work will include the full upgrade of the Hafan Unit to create a new ward area, as well as bringing together the Hafan Unit Dementia Day Assessment Service and the former Ala Road Dementia Day Assessment Service into refurbished accommodation at the back of the hospital.

At the beginning of August the Dementia Day Service from Hafan Unit in Ysbyty Bryn Beryl will also relocate to Hafod Lon.
