PRESSURE at Bronglais Hospital has eased today (Thursday, 9 January) with some inpatient surgery resuming.
Inpatient operations had been cancelled from Monday, 6 January initially with the health board blaming exceptional pressure.
Operations had been cancelled across Hywel Dda’s four main hospitals, but on Thursday, Hywel Dda Health Board said the situation had improved in both Bronglais and Prince Philip in Llanelli, although the situation was unchanged in Glangwili in Carmarthen and Withybush in Haverfordwest.
But while confirming that things had improved in Bronglais, a health board spokesperson said the situation was still fragile with services under pressure.
The spokesperson said: "The picture remains challenging however we have seen a slight improvement compared with the beginning of the week with two of our hospitals, Bronglais and Prince Philip, achieving a de-escalated status today (Thursday, 9 January).
"The actions we have taken have allowed us to resume some inpatient surgery.
"We are mindful that our services continue to operate under significant pressures and we continue to urge the public to choose well by visiting NHS symptom checker or visiting their community pharmacy for advice and treatment, particularly for seasonal ailments."
