THE future of the old Bodlondeb care home building in Penparcau will be discussed by Ceredigion councillors later this month.
Bodlondeb closed in early January after the one remaining resident moved to an alternative care home.
That led to uncertainty about the future of the building and rumours it was going to be sold and turned into a bail hostel.
Aberystwyth councillor Ceredig Davies said questions were now being asked about what would happen to the site. He asked: “When will we hear what the future will be?”
Council chief executive Eifion Evans confirmed that council officials are currently drawing up potential options and that it was expected a report into the future of the site would be discussed by councillors in mid February.
Cllr Alun Lloyd Jones wanted to know what was happening with the furniture and fittings in the home.
Council leader Ellen ap Gwynn said no decisions had yet been taken on that as the home had not been officially closed for long.
She said information about the contents would go to the authority’s healthier communities scrutiny committee before decisions are made by Cabinet members.
Meanwhile, a social care leader says there’s an urgent need to build more new care homes in mid and west Wales to cater for the boom in the over 85 population.
According to Mario Kreft MBE, the chair of Care Forum Wales, the number of care homes is declining in the area instead of going up, a situation he describes as “the perfect storm”.
