NEW posters designed by Gwynedd schoolchildren have been incorporated into a health campaign.
Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board’s Pharmacy Department invited all primary schools in Anglesey and Gwynedd to work with their Key Stage 2 pupils to create a poster titled Beat the Bug to help promote the appropriate use of antibiotics.
The overall winner of the competition was Cari Williams, a pupil at Ysgol Nefyn, who was presented with a gold iPad and certificate by health board chairman Dr Peter Higson.
Second place was awarded to Alaw Dobson, also from Ysgol Nefyn, while third place went to Emily Murfin from Tywyn, who were both presented with a stationery set and certificate.
Susan Murphy, assistant director and head of medicines management at the health board, who is leading the Keep Antibiotics Fighting campaign, said: “We’re delighted that so many schools worked with their Key Stage 2 pupils to produce posters for our Beat the Bug competition.
“The judging process was extremely difficult as we’d received over 160 posters and there were so many wonderful designs to choose from.
“Cari’s winning poster will be used as part of the health board’s Keep Antibiotics Fighting campaign to help raise awareness of the effects that inappropriate antibiotic use has on the human body.”
