A MID and West Wales Assembly Member is urging Ceredigion residents to thank foreign NHS workers for the important role they play in healthcare services.

Eluned Morgan, a Labour regional AM, wants to ensure that NHS workers from abroad realise how highly they are thought of by patients and members of the public for their work.

Ms Morgan visited Bronglais Hospital on Wednesday, 20 July asking members of the public to hand over forms thanking foreign staff members for their hard work.

She said: “There has been a rise in terms of racism and an increase in people thinking they can have a pop at people coming into our country.

“That’s unacceptable at any time, but there’s a massive problem in terms of doctors, nurses and care workers. I think it’s very important we make them realise they’re very welcome and we appreciate what they do.”

Ms Morgan said she was concerned that recruitment to posts in the NHS and for care workers could be hit by the vote to leave the EU, with the health service already admitting that it faces problems in recruiting enough staff.
