OVER 200 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Wales over the past 24 hours, according to Public Health Wales.
Every county in Wales has recorded at least one new case today (Monday) as figures show that 234 cases were reported across Wales, but no deaths.
Ceredigion has recorded one new case. Carmarthenshire has seen the biggest jump in West Wales with 12 new cases in the past day.
Pembrokeshire has recorded five new cases and Powys, one.
Gwynedd has recorded four new cases.
The news comes after the Welsh Government this morning announced that local lockdowns were being brought in to four new areas of South Wales.
As for 6pm on Tuesday people will not be allowed to enter or leave Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil or Newport following a sharp rise in cases in these areas.
This follows last week’s move to place Caerphilly and Rhondda Cynon Taf in local lockdown.
As well as not being able to enter or leave these areas, people will also not be able to meet people they don’t live with outside and all licensed premises will have to close at 11pm.
The restrictions are being introduced following a rapid increase in the number of confirmed cases in coronavirus, which have been linked to people meeting indoors, not following social distancing guidelines and returning from summer holidays overseas.
The Welsh Government will call an urgent meeting of all local authority, health board and police forces from Bridgend to the English border tomorrow to discuss the wider situation in South Wales and whether further measures are needed across the region to protect people’s health.
The new local restrictions measures will be kept under regular review. They will be enforced by local authorities and by the police.
