WALES has passed the peak and flattened the curve of new coronavirus cases, Public Health Wales declared today (Saturday), and said they are looking at how to ease the lockdown.

Dr Chris Williams, Incident Director for the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak response at Public Health Wales, said: “We seem to have passed the peak and flattened the curve of new cases of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Wales, which appears to be an indication of the effectiveness of lockdown measures.

"We are currently working with Welsh Government to determine the best approach for when the lockdown is eventually eased."

Today’s figures from Public Health Wales released at 2pm show that Ceredigion stays on 36 cases, again seeing no new patients with the virus in hospital.

Pembrokeshire has had 2 new confirmed cases, making the total 213.

Carmarthenshire has seen 9 new positive tests, making its total 482.

Powys has had 179 cases, after 8 positive tests reported today.

And Gwynedd is on 240, up 7 on yesterday.

There were 160 new reports today, taking the total in Wales to 9,972. Seventeen new deaths bring the total of suspected Covid-19 deaths reported to PHW to 935.

Over 37,000 tests have been carried out in Wales.

Dr Williams added: “In the meantime, social distancing rules remain in effect. Public Health Wales fully supports Welsh Government’s revised stay-at-home regulations. The message has not changed – anyone can get coronavirus, anyone can spread it. Stay home, protect the NHS, and save lives."
