Madam,

It was with absolute horror that I heard the closure of Bodlondeb was announced by Ceredigion County Council on 7 November.

It appears that county councillors on the Cabinet have totally ignored the wishes of electorate and local people in Aberystwyth and surrounding areas. My opinion is that it looks as if the Cabinet had made their mind up before the consultation and just gone through the motions, and that’s how it will look to the voters of Aberystwyth.

Why has the Cabinet voted for the closure knowing that there’s a shortfall in the availability in this most populated area in Ceredigion for residential homes for the elderly.

Have they no concerns about the families now who are going to be far apart from their nearest and dearest?

This closure is apparently due to the cost of renovation. If that’s true then the past and present authorities are responsible for the current position. It would be interesting to hear via the Cambrian News what the views of other readers are.

Yours etc,

Ray Blackburne, Penparcau, Aberystwyth.
