It is a well-known fact that hedgehogs are in serious decline.

According to wildlife trusts and others this is due to various factors including loss of habitat and a reduction in insect populations. We are told that it is important to retain suitable habitat and hedgehogs are allowed to roam between gardens. This means having well-established hedgerows and an ability for ‘hogs to get from one garden to another. Recently Tai Ceredigion has installed fences with what they call kickboards around houses and flats in parts of Penparcau. These boards are not wooden but made of concrete and form a solid barrier to the movement of hedgehogs.

Mine (which I hold a lease for) and neighbouring gardens used to be a haven for wildlife but contractors have removed hedges and trees and installed this wildlife barrier. It is heartbreaking.

I have written to Tai Ceredigion asking them to take action such as the reinstatement of hedgerows and making tunnels or holes for hedgehogs.
