CAN you put a name to some of the faces from this class photo taken at Alexandra Road School in the mid to late 1950s?
Kelvin Jones (pictured third from left on the top row) provided the picture to Timewatch.
The school, which later became Ysgol Cymraeg, was built in 1874.
In 1952 part of the building became an infant and junior school for children who were taught through the medium of Welsh, while nearby North Road school taught through the medium of English, with Welsh as a second language.
In 1955 the new secondary school of Dinas (now Penglais) was built and the senior pupils moved there, leaving room for the North Road pupils to return.
Between 1967 and 1969 a new school was built in Plascrug for pupils who learnt through the medium of English.
The new Ysgol Cymraeg was built near Plas Crug school in 1992, leaving this building available for its present uses.
Plans are currently being discussed to convert the school buildings into a leisure and eating complex with chains such as Pizza Express and Loungers showing an interest.
A few of the faces have been named including in the back row: Brian Roberts, Kelvin Jones, Danny Parry, Andy Hoskins, Pete Norrington Davies, John Stan Davies, John Mlezick, Roger Edwards, David Hunt; middle row: Ann Hoskins, Jennifer Jones, Susan Pritchard, Jackie Brown, boys Stuart Masters, John Wolstenholme; front row: Lynne Brewer and Effie Richards.
