Madam,

This year is the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War and, as Huw Edwards (a local boy) said in his documentary on the TV, “we all have the duty to remember”.

All around the country local communities are remembering the brave soldiers who lost their lives fighting for their country. What is happening in New Quay? Ceredigion council has decided it will no longer support the Memorial Hall which proudly bears the names of the local boys and men who died. There was even talk of demolishing the hall, as it has been neglected of repair for so long that it is thought not to be worthy of the financial investment.

Thank goodness for many local people who have taken it upon themselves to raise money to try to save the hall. Many fundraising events are being organised including a Christmas raffle.

I hope the people of New Quay succeed where Ceredigion Council sadly failed in this milestone year!

Yours etc,

Judith Read,

Emrys, New Quay, and Holmlea, Penarth.
