An Aberystwyth charity has thanked fundraisers who have supported it during the pandemic, as a four-figure donation was presented by a son in memory of his mother.

Nigel Davies presented a cheque for £1,165 to Aberystwyth and District Hospice at Home (HAHAV) in memory of his mother Christine Davies last week.

Established by volunteers in 2015, HAHAV is led by Dr Alan Axford OBE, the former medical director of Hywel Dda Health Board.

It is Ceredigion’s only hospice facility and volunteers work closely alongside local NHS palliative care teams and other charities.

HAHAV volunteers provide practical, social, and emotional support to patients living with advanced, incurable and progressive illness, and their carers.

Dr Axford said that he “expressed his gratitude for such support”.

“Fund-raising has been seriously curtailed during the last 12 months of the Covid pandemic,” he added.

Nigel said he would like to thank everyone for their kind donations in memory of his mother.

Last week, the Cambrian News reported how HAHAV had secured funding for two full-time members of staff to help establish its new day centre at Plas Antaron in Penparcau.

A facilities manager will co-ordinate activities at the centre and a fundraiser will work to ensure a sustainable future for the charity and help develop its plans.

It was reported that Covid restrictions have affected HAHAV services and delayed plans for the new day centre.

Thanks to a recent National Lottery grant, work is also well under way for HAHAV’s new digital outreach services.
