Madam,
In 1926, when a national coal strike was called in protest against poverty wages, the Tory government extolled and facilitated the involvement of volunteers to break the supporting General strike.
Now, in similar economic circumstances, a Tory government appeals for volunteers to return to nursing, offering them poverty wages during retraining (Cambrian News, 20 December).
However, George Osborne, ex-'chancer' of the exchequer, the architect of economic austerity and midwife of NHS underfunding, received no training in economics, just a modest 2.1 in modern history.
He then failed to learn from that history and repeated the austerity imposed after the Wall Street crash in 1929, with devastating economic and social consequences.
How much longer must this country be ruled by ill-qualified politicians, playing musical chairs,
Yours etc,
Roger Louvet, Llanfrothen.
