A HUGE dragon will visit Caernarfon town square tomorrow (Saturday) before settling in to its new home at Harlech Castle on Sunday.

The whopping one tonne creature, which has been touring Wales over the summer holidays, will invade Caernarfon town square on Saturday, September 17 for one day only, before settling in its new home at Harlech Castle from 18 September.

Visitors are dared to stand inside the dragon’s giant claw as they are ‘captured’ by the mythical monster, while children and adults alike can marvel at its reptile-like scales and smoke-breathing nostrils.

On September 17 the dragon will be situated next to the Lloyd George statue in Caernarfon and will be available to see from 9am – 5pm.

The visits, organised by Welsh Government historic environment service Cadw, aim to attract new visitors to the magnificent historic sites and provide a boost to the local tourism industry.

Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Infrastructure, Ken Skates, said: “The reception that the dragon received at Caerphilly Castle was overwhelming – not only having a positive impact on the site, but on the town’s wider economy too. We’re keen to build on this success in Gwynedd.”

The spectacular creature was sculpted and moulded before being built out of fibreglass, by prop design specialists, Wild Creations.

It took six weeks, 374kgs of silicon and a team of 15 talented sculptors to create the dragon. Since its launch it has attracted thousands of visitors to Caerphilly Castle and helped raise the profile of monument throughout Wales.

The visits to both Caernarfon town square and Harlech Castle, will be the end of a grand summer tour, where the dragon has conquered towns across north, south and west Wales as part of Cadw’s ‘Historic Adventures’ season.

Visitors meeting the dragon can access bonus content by opening the Cadw app in-front of the beast’s enormous snout, thanks to the latest iBeacon technology.
