AN ultra-runner from Pwllheli has completed the “toughest footrace on Earth” and raised £6,000 for charity.
Huw Williams, 44, managed to run Marathon Des Sables, a six-day, 156-mile slog in the world’s toughest terrain, the Sahara Desert.
With temperatures regularly reaching well over 50° C, uneven sand dunes and rocky outcrops, and freezing cold evenings, the race is renowned as one of the most gruelling challenges a human can undertake.
Running an equivalent of a marathon a day, except Wednesday when he ran two back-to-back, Huw completed his staggering task between 9 and 15 April.
