A NEWCASTLE Emlyn fitness instructor and his supporters raised almost £1,000 through a 24-hour Hydrospinathon challenge at the local swimming pool over the weekend.

The challenge saw David Maund spin on an underwater bike and he was supported by many of his friends and clients, including former Wales and Scarlets flanker Dafydd Jones.

“It was tough physically and mentally, but having people with me and supporting me kept me going until the end,” said David.

“I did enjoy it in a funny way. It challenged me physically as I’ve never done it for such a long duration and it made me realise that I am mentally tough.

“I hit a wall a few times as the body and eyes wanted to go to sleep, but managed to get through with food and drink.”

The money raised will help buy new floor tiles for the pool.
