Madam,

It was with shock that I learned that the appeal against Ceredigion County Council’s decision to refuse planning permission for the installation of a metal tree on Borth beach had been upheld.

It was with further dismay that I read the planning inspector’s report of his decision.

The decision, it would appear, is based on his personal interpretation and opinion.

How, in a democratic society, could it come down to a single man’s opinion?

How could an individual overturn a committee’s decision?

How could he fly so flagrantly in the face of public opinion? Did the petition containing over 1,000 signatures or the huge number of letters written objecting to the installation have such little weight?

Yours etc,

Elizabeth Mullan, High Street, Borth.
