Council traffic wardens will “pay particular attention” to motorists parking on drop kerbs in Fairbourne following complaints.

A woman with mobility issues from the village, who did not want to be named, said that she finds it “increasingly difficult” to move around and has called for action to be taken.

She said: “More needs to be done to make sure that disabled people can get around safely.

“It is becoming increasingly difficult and it feels as though people just don’t care.

“It is just not safe.”

Gwynedd Council said that it is “inconsiderate drivers” who “cause unnecessary risk”, and that parking enforcement officers will keep an eye out for issues when on patrol in the village.

A Gwynedd Council spokesperson told the Cambrian News: “Drivers who block road crossing points cause great difficulty for people who are visually impaired, wheelchair users and parents pushing prams.

“Dropped kerbs are in place to make it easier for people to cross the road safely.

“But by parking across them, a minority of inconsiderate drivers cause unnecessary risk as pedestrians have to manoeuvre around them and often have to step out into the highway.

“There can also be instances where the emergency services and other essential services cannot get through because drivers have parked over an access to a driveway or too far from the kerb.

“As a council, our parking enforcement officers take action when drivers have blocked dropped kerbs and they will be paying particular attention to the situation in Fairbourne when they patrol the area.”
