Mystery surrounds the appearance of a mountain of mattresses near Dolgellau.
The items have been deposited in Llanelltyd, near to Dolgellau, by Servmax Limited.
Servmax says it had obtained permission to leave the mattresses and carpets there, saying they are legally allowed to store up to 1,000 tonnes of materials on the site for up to a year.
Gwynedd County Council and Snowdonia National Park have both stated that the matter is in the hands of Natural Resources Wales.
A Gwynedd Council spokesperson said: “We are aware of this matter and our street enforcement team are in contact with officers from Natural Resources Wales who are leading on the issue.”
Euros Jones, the operations manager for Natural Resources Wales, said: “Following reports of a large amount of waste material being stored on land at Llanelltyd, near Dolgellau, our officers visited the site to check if all necessary permissions are in place for the activity.
“Our investigation is continuing but if anyone has any further information please get in touch with us by calling 0300 065 3000.”
