Madam,

On Monday, 8 May I arrived at the scene of an accident on the Machynlleth to Llanidloes road near the Aberhosan turning seconds, after a man travelling on a motorcycle had tragically been killed.

The accident occurred on a stretch of road where residents have been warning a tragedy was inevitable. Concerns were highlighted to the authorities by Cadfarch Community Council and a number of accidents have since occurred on that stretch of road. Why were the warnings not heeded?

I understand that the reasons certain work has not been carried our on this road is because it would interfere with an unusual flower found on that stretch. We all want to look after nature, but if this is true it raises the question: is this plant really so rare that it is worth placing people’s lives at risk?

Yours etc,

Aled Jones, Aberhosan, Machynlleth.
