As a Welsh woman and ‘resident’ of the beautiful holiday location of Aberdyfi, I take great pride in promoting the village where I have a home. I advise visitors where to shop; where to eat; where to walk; where to travel by train and by bus. I know these things because I have over the past 30 years lived here, giving employment to local builders and tradespeople.

But I have not lived here all the time. For seven years I lived in Asia, but my home was available to friends and family to use and enjoy. I was anxious to do my bit to keep local tourist industry thriving.

I have no garden nor drive. I buy an annual parking permit. I take my rubbish away with me.Yes, I am lucky and blessed: I have two homes.

I run neither as a business. I don’t pretend I live in one and my partner in the other and claim single occupancy. And when I die my family will pay inheritance tax on the property.

And for what? So that Gwynedd Council can punish me with 200 per cent council tax. Is this a fair decision? I think not.
