Madam,
I find it refreshing that your contributor J A Davies displays a sense of humour. I must assume that he did not intend for his letter to be taken seriously (‘Letter writers should have the courage of their convictions’)?
Was he acting as the designated sacrificial goat, to attempt to gain credibility for the ‘establishment’?
I find his analogy to the heroes of the two world wars somewhat disingenuous to their sacrifice and to their memory, their contribution to what has become a less than perfect world. Were any of his erstwhile pillars of the community involved in the conflicts, or indeed, were their forebears?
As for the previous contributors who withheld their names, I can certainly empathise with them; it is a very hazardous undertaking to express one’s dissent with the actions or motives of the stalwarts of the Llanon community.
I do have the courage of my convictions.
Yours etc, Allan Phillips, New Quay.
