Madam,

The response from O Jean Thomas to my letter (‘Stop spreading hate and keep a welcome in the hillside’) proves my point that people fear accusations of being prejudiced if they say anything critical of certain subject matters.

The intended tone of my letter (‘Proposed mosque site is inappropriate and inaccessible’) was to be neutral but highlight the concerns of some villagers.

It’s perfectly reasonable to desire to conserve culture and heritage of the Welsh.

My comment ‘inappropriate and inaccessible site’ related to traffic issues and the lack of pavements and on-site parking.

When I said ‘If there would be any trouble’ it stemmed from observing the countless news reports of incidents and vandalism of Muslim and Christian places of worship around Europe.

O Jean Thomas made a leap and incorrectly quoted me as saying ‘There will be trouble’.

The only person making accusations here is O Jean Thomas saying that I am ‘spreading hate’ by reading only negativity into my letter.

Yours etc, Chris Smith, Llanbedr.
