A Dyffryn Ardudwy man is cycling 100 miles in May to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.

James Collier is also taking part in the event to challenge himself. He is carrying out the challenge on a trike and, due to bad weather so far in the event, has needed to cover some of the distance on an exercise bike indoors.

James said: “Last year was really not good for many people and their health, I myself had put on weight and become unfit. I use a wheelchair with limited power in my legs so I use a recumbent trike because of bad balance also.

“I decided I need to get healthier and I saw the campaign for #100MilesInMay for #ProstateCancerUK And I thought about combining the two together for fitness and for a good cause.”

James added: “Because of the lack of power I have had to use the promenade in Barmouth as it is very flat so I just go up and down there as m uch as I can to slowly reach 100 miles. I asked about the Mawddach trail as it is also pretty flat and nice change of scenery.

“The challenge itself has created challenges such as bad weather cancelling rides and putting pressure on me to use my exercise bike at home just to keep the miles ticking over.

“I also have to rely on somebody else when I go out the trike to load and unload, which can be quite inconvenient and also be there via walkie-talkie if I get into difficulty.

To date, James has raised £400, over half way to his end of the month goal of £500.
