A BOW Street great-gran has celebrated her whopping 103rd birthday surrounded by her family.
Jenny Roberts, who lives in Cartref Tregerddan Care Home, had a tea party on Good Friday with her three children – Geraint Roberts, 76, Gwenda Jones, 74, and Hywel Roberts, 70, – as well as her eight grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
Her youngest great-grandson, Gwern, is only a month old, and was also at the birthday party.
Born Jenny Pugh in Dolgellau in 1914, Mrs Roberts worked as a nurse for many years, first in Alder Hey Hospital, Liverpool, and then later returning to work in Dolgellau Hospital.
She married her husband, David John (DJ) Roberts in 1937, and they moved to Cardigan, where he took up the position of minister at Capel Mair.
After her husband died in 1996, Mrs Roberts lived in Cardigan until the age of 100, and then moved to Bow Street three years ago to live near her son Hywel.
“She’s quite an independent woman, and has a very sound mind. I think it’s just through keeping busy,“ said Hywel.
