A 45-STRONG German contingent spent a weekend in Aberystwyth to celebrate 20 years of twinning.
The relationship between Aberystwyth and Kronberg goes back almost 50 years, but this year’s 20th anniversary of official twinning between the two towns saw two reciprocal visits.
After a delegation from Aberystwyth visited Kronberg in August, the first weekend of September saw the return visit of friends from Kronberg.
The first group came by coach on Thursday, 31 August, while the second delegation arrived on Friday, including the Mayor of Kornberg, Klaus Temmen, and fellow councillors.
After some shopping in Aberystwyth town centre on the Saturday afternoon, the 45-strong contingent visited the under-construction Parc Kronberg skatepark and community area.
Here, Mr Temmen presented a sweet chestnut tree to his counterpart, the Mayor of Aberystwyth Cllr Steve Davies.
Following this, Carol Kolczak presented a Welsh slate milestone, fully engraved with the distance between Kronberg and Aberystwyth, 750 miles
This was followed by a Welsh tea at Aberystwyth Town Football Club, where everyone socialised.
The official evening dinner was held at the Pier Brasserie, where an excellent evening was enjoyed by all.
Welsh harp music was provided by Eleri Turner and an exchange of gifts followed.
