A LACK of litter bins in Borth could hit the village during the busy tourist season, a local businessman has warned.

Garry Pritchard, of the Acorn chip shop, said it was “ridiculous” that the south part of the village had no litter bins and warned that litter problems would be caused, with pavements already covered in broken glass.

But county councillor Ray Quant said bins had been removed because in some cases residents had been using them to dispose of household waste.

Mr Pritchard said that as the tourist is season about to start, leaving almost half of the village without public litter bins could lead to major problems.

He said: “Half of Borth leading to Ynyslas has more bins than you can shake a stick at, but on the south side, from the Railway Inn down to the Nisa store, there are no bins.

“I spoke to Cllr Ray Quant who said it’s because people in houses are putting too much rubbish in them, but they should be putting notices through doors and telling people not to put household waste in public bins.

“It’s ridiculous. I’ve had people bringing rubbish back into the shop, but I can’t take it as I have to pay to get rid of my rubbish."
