A RHOSLEFAIN woman has kayaked along the coast of Meirionnydd after being named the lady ambassador for this year’s Royal Welsh Show.
Catrin Lisa Jones, 26, from Cae Du, will be the lady ambassador at the show next month and each year the ambassador completes a challenge to help with the host county’s fundraising appeal.
Catrin said: “I am honoured to be the lady ambassador for this year and I wanted to find a challenge that was a little bit different.
“I also wanted to support another charity and chose Wales Air Ambulance which plays such an important role in our area.
“No other challenge has involved water and, as Merionnydd is the host county this year, I came up with the idea of kayaking around the coastline of Merionnydd – a total of 33 miles – starting at Borth y Gest and finishing in Aberdyfi.”
“I certainly had to do some training as I haven’t done very much kayaking before.
“I tried to get myself as fit as possible and went to Glan-llyn a few times and trained on Tegid Lake.
“The furthest I had kayaked in training was 11.5 miles, so to complete 33 miles was certainly a challenge!”
Catrin, with a team of fellow kayakers, set off at 6.30am on Saturday morning and, with only one stop at Tonfanau, the group arrived at Aberdyfi at 8pm.
She added: “I really enjoyed the whole experience and it was wonderful to see near the finish that Aberdyfi Rowing Club had come out on the estuary to meet us and escorted us on the last leg into Aberdyfi."
