A drop in event in Lampeter, which offered residents the chance to speak to town councillors and see the work being done by Caru Llanbed was ‘incredibly successful’ according to Lampeter Mayor, Cllr Rhys Bebb Jones.

The event, which took place in the Black Lion Royal Hotel on Wednesday 6 March.

Cllr Rhys Bebb Jones said: “It was an incredibly successful night. We had a lot of support and questions from the town residents.”

Those who took part were asked what they thought were the good aspects of Lampeter, as well as how they would describe the town in a word, and what they would like to see the town council to focus on in the future.

Town Mayor, Cllr Rhys Bebb Jones said: “We will be discussing the responses we got from the questionnaire once all of the data is collected. We’re completely accountable to our residents, so unpacking these responses will help us work with residents and how we could best spend our time working towards meeting their needs.”

The meeting also served as a chance for the town council to update Lampeter’s residents on what the council has been working on and how they have moved forward.

The council has applied for grants to refurbish the town’s clock tower, water fountains, and the town’s war memorial.

Altogether, the cost of these projects is expected to be £45,000.

Lampeter’s Place Plan was also discussed. The plan will be sent to Ceredigion County Council for review. A common concern among residents is the possibility that Lampeter’s public library may be moved into the town’s Wellbeing Centre. A public consultation is being organised to discuss the situation, it is expected to take place in June.

Cllr Bebb Jones said: “Residents raised concerns and questions about the potential for the library to be moved to the Wellbeing Centre. We have received many emails and letters from Lampeter and the area opposing the move. Individual town councillors have also written letters to Ceredigion County Council opposing the move. I have written one too.”

The reason behind the library’s potential relocation is to save costs. Ceredigion County Council has also been in discussion with Lampeter Town Council about the feasibility of delegating the responsibility of providing certain public services to the town council, such as maintaining public toilets and cleaning the streets.

Lampeter Town Council met with Ceredigion County Council this week to discuss the situation.
