LLANIDLOES’ library and museum could share a new location in the town hall, as the town and county councils work together to try and find a new home for both services.

The two authorities have been working together to find a way to locate the library and the museum in the same premises as a way of saving money and protecting both services.

Llanidloes mayor Phyl Davies said he hoped that the library and museum would open in the town hall in spring 2017, with some refurbishment work being carried out first.

Cllr Davies said he hoped the announcement would ease concerns over the future of the library and museum, and said the town council would not charge rental fees for the library and museum, and also urged any potential volunteers to help out to come forward.

He said: “There has been a lot of concern locally about the future of the library and museum, but we are very pleased to be working together with the county council to locate both of them at the town hall.

“The town council has agreed to waive a rental fee and will pay the utility costs. Staffing costs will be met by the county council, but we would like to encourage volunteers to support the staff in the new facility.”
