THE family of the former second coxswain of Pwllheli RNLI say they are honoured that the charity is to name their new lifeboat after him.

Bob Wright MBE, who was also a Gwynedd councillor for Pwllheli South, died whilst on a rescue mission with his RNLI team in September last year.

Pwllheli RNLI recently organised an evening to officially launch their appeal to raise money for a new inshore lifeboat which will be named in honour of Mr Wright.

During the evening the family of Mr Wright were also presented with a RNLI Service Vellum which marked the 41 years of service he gave to the charity.

Cllr Hefin Underwood, Mr Wright’s cousin and Gwynedd councillor for Pwllheli South, said: “The family are honoured that the RNLI have decided to name their new lifeboat after Bob.

“He was a huge part of the RNLI team here in Pwllheli and dedicated over 40 years of service to the charity.

“I would like to thank Pwllheli RNLI for organising such a fantastic evening to launch their appeal to raise funds for the lifeboat and I will be supporting them throughout their fund-raising efforts.”

Pwllheli RNLI station mechanic Alwyn Roberts said the team is hoping to raise a significant proportion of the £48,000 needed to purchase the new inshore lifeboat.
