Madam,
So it appears county councillor Alun Williams feels that changes to Ceredigion County Council ward boundaries, as suggested by the Boundaries Commission, “should be put on hold”
Cllr Williams, who is a Cabinet member and who voted for the closure of Bodlondeb Residential Home, apparently now sees his seat and, presumably, the £26,100 he earns per year from the county council as under threat.
Cllr Williams warns that “sensible options are being ignored”, proposals mooted “that no-one wants”, and he asks that these changes in Aberystwyth are “put on hold until a proper review of community boundaries has taken place”.
Bless me, if you substituted the words ‘community boundaries’ with ‘care for the elderly’ then you find yourself with exactly the same arguments put forward by the campaign to keep Bodlondeb open.
Cllr Williams has said that no-one to whom he had spoken agreed with the proposed changes, although he gave no impression that he had spoken to anyone other than fellow councillors about the issue.
Instead of making the “tough decisions”, Cllr Williams now finds himself on the receiving end of one. I am afraid I have little sympathy in the circumstances.
Yours etc,
George Holloway, Rhoshendre, Waunfawr, Aberystwyth.
