A woman from Harlech will set off to Gambia next month to help children in need.
Liz Stringer, a chef at Harlech Ardudwy Leisure Centre, works for SKOOLZ4KIDS, a charity which enhances educational experiences for children.
To help fund the trip, the leisure centre hosted a coffee morning on Tuesday, 28 January, to provide people with “a chance to support your local centre and an international cause”.
Liz was able to share a “flavour of her life” at the coffee morning, and there was also a coin swap at which people swapped a British 50p for a Gambian dalasi.
Explaining why she will travel to Gambia next month, Liz said: “I first started visiting Gambia when I realised that, for just £100 a year, I can sponsor a child through school and give them the chance to work their way out of poverty.
“Now several of my friends and family are doing the same and making a huge difference.”
