A bypass for Llanbadarn Fawr should be relisted as a priority transport scheme by the Welsh Government to avoid increasing problems in the village, it has been claimed.

The Cambrian News revealed that the scheme had been removed from a Welsh Government transport plan, with a spokesperson saying there were other priorities.

But local councillors have insisted that with further housing development planned for the village and increasing levels of large traffic driving through, a bypass is needed more than ever.

Residents who live on the main A44 through the village have said that with larger and larger lorries using the road, their homes are suffering from cracks, with some houses also being hit by large vehicles.

Community councillor Tom Kendall said the community council had supported the bypass plan and that the decision to remove it from the Welsh Government plan would be disappointing to residents in the village.

He said: “It is a real shame that the government have dropped the bypass in Llanbadarn.

“Llanbadarn residents have to cope with large lorries, vans and cars passing through on a daily occurrence in the village.

“The government should reconsider their position and put the bypass as a priority.”

County councillor Gareth Davies said further housing developments in Llanbadarn were pushing the village’s infrastructure to the limit, with the current road through the village already struggling to cope with the volume of traffic.

He vowed to continue lobbying for a bypass and said he would be raising the issue during a county council scrutiny committee meeting over an economic strategy for Ceredigion
