St Padarn’s

LAST Sunday, 29 November, was Advent Sunday and the principal service of the day at St Padarn’s was a very successful bilingual first Advent carol service led by the church choir and conducted by the organist and choirmaster Darryl Walters. The service was particularly well attended with the church choir of 18 present in full strength. The service started with the choir processing in silence to the east end of the church where they sang the Matin Responsary by Palestrina unaccompa-nied.

They then proceeded back to the choir stalls singing with the congregation, the Advent carol, O Come, O Come Emmanuel.Three other choir-only items in the service, were also sung unaccompa-nied. The service saw choir and congre-gation together singing a wide range of carols in both English and Welsh and seven advent readings. Before the last carol, Rev Andrew Loat gave the prayers and blessing. The organist was John Lloyd and the service concluded with Darryl Walters playing the concluding voluntary, Bach’s Chorale Prelude Sleepers Awake. Sunday, 6 December, is the second Sunday in Advent and services will be: 8am, Holy Communion using the 1984 red book setting; 10am, Boreol Weddi; and 11.15am, Choral Matins. All are welcome.
