Clwb Ffrindiau

THE FIRST meeting of the New Year, held at the New Inn on Thursday, 14 January, was the AGM. Minutes secretary, May Turnell, read the minutes of the previous AGM held in January 2015 and these were signed as a correct record. Copies of the 2015 audited accounts were circulated and various points highlighted by the treasurer. The closing current account balance was significantly lower than the previous year and some money had had to be transferred from the savings account to meet expenses for additional coach hire. There was still one outstanding invoice. There was still a strong balance in the savings account although this is diminishing and a small amount of interest had been earned. After some discussion, it was agreed that the subscription for the coming year remain the same as it had only been increased by 50 per cent last year and members felt it was too soon to consider this again. Margaret Howells gave a short chairman’s report on the events of the past year and thanked all her officers for their support to her over this time. June Woodbridge was also thanked for all her work in design-ing and printing the programmes for members and ensured that club events were advertised widely throughout the village. Eirwen James joined the meeting to officiate in the election of new officers. Margaret Howells, the present chairman, was persuaded to continue for another year as were most of the other officers. Emma Williams agreed to take on the responsibility for organising trips, but will be given support by other members of the committee. Ann Hellier agreed to continue assisting with the refreshments again with the support of others. Angela Payne would continue to write the press reports for the Cambrian News. Recruitment issues were discussed and Eirwen suggested that the report and programme for the coming year should be posted on the Llanddewi Brefi Community Council website. Angela will continue to put contact numbers on the monthly press report.Following the business part of the meeting, Penny McGregor gave a very interesting talk and demonstration of hand weaving explaining the development of the craft from hand spinning with bobbins to the introduction of spinning wheels and then the loom. The vote of thanks was given by Margaret Howells. The next meeting, which will be held at the New Inn, is on Thursday, 11 February with speaker Jasmine Wilson, cleaning services manager for Ceredigion County Council, a familiar face to anyone watching local TV programme on Cardigan Bay in the summer of 2015. On 10 March, the monthly club meeting will be held in the New Inn at lunchtime.New members (50+) from Llanddewi Brefi and the surrounding area are always welcome.
