Llandygwydd YFC Ploughing Society
AN EXCELLENT day was reported by committee members after their annual ploughing match was held on 27 February by kind permission of Mr and Mrs A D Sisto & Sons, Blaenaugwenog farm, Gorsgoch, Llanybydder. A total of 24 ploughmen competed across six classes and the weather saw a good crowd of supporters at the event. President of the day was Mr Sisto. The chairman, Huw Davies, Wern Villa thanked the competitors for supporting the ploughing again this year. He also thanked the Sisto family for the kind loan of the land to hold the event and the com-mittee members for their hard work in organising the event. The judges were Dai Prosser, Gower; Raymond Roach, Haverfordwest; Alan Lucas, Cowbridge; and Bryn Harries, Fishguard.The results were as follows: Class 3, Classic: John Cole, Trewen Cottage, Whitchurch, Ross on Wye.Class 4, Open Semi Digger: Rhodri George, Derlwyn, Hayscastle, Haverfordwest.Class 5, Vintage Trailer: Gordon Harries, Sunnybank, St. Florence, near Tenby.Class 6, Vintage Hydraulic: John Lewis, White House, Meifod, Powys.Class 7, Open Under 26: James George, Derlwyn, Hayscastle, Haverfordwest.Class 11, Ferguson TE20: John Evans, Mwyn-ant, Eglwyswrw, Crymych.South & West Wales Championship: Senior: Rhodri George, Derlwyn, Hayscastle, Haverfordwest, three points; Brenig Bryan, West End Farm, Llawhaden, Narberth, two points; Lodwig Jones, Green Acres, Four Roads, Kidwelly and Aled Morgan, Coedmor, Bryngwyn, Newcastle Emlyn, one point.Junior: James George, Derlwyn, Hayscastle, Haverfordwest, three points.Rhodri George also received the Barclays Bank Challenge Cup awarded to best on the field and the T S Morris Perpetual Memorial Tray awarded to the ploughman with the best work on the field by a competitor from the south and west Wales area.The W D James, Trewindsor Perpetual Memorial Shield awarded to the best competitor under 26 (any class) went to James George.John George, Rhoswen Perpetual Memorial Cup awarded for the best Vintage Turnout went to Philip Jones, Sunlea, Tregynon, Newtown.The All Wales Ploughing and Hedging Championships will take place on 17 September at Mill Ground, Tregoyd, Brecon.
