A POPULAR and long-standing Ceredigion county councillor has announced he will retire and not seek re-election in May.

Alun Lloyd-Jones has represented Llanfarian ward as a community, district, and county councillor for 31 years, and said it was with a “heavy heart” that he decided to step down.

The 75-year-old, who is a member of Plaid Cymru, said he will also be retiring as a governor of Llanfarian School after 38 years.

“With a heavy heart I have decided not to seek re-election in next May’s elections, and feel that at 75 years of age, it is time to hand over the reins to someone with the energy, passion, and vision to look after this beautiful area in the future,” Cllr Lloyd-Jones said.

“It has been an honour and a privilege to represent Llanfarian Ward and its residents over the past three decades, but the time has come for me to retire from public life.

“I wish my successor, whoever he or she is , the very best of luck and good health, as we begin a new era in Llanfarian’s representation on the Community and County Councils.”

The 2022 elections for Ceredigion County Council will take place this year on Thursday, 5 May.
