THERE will be a coffee morning in aid of the Ponthafren Outreach Group at Trinity Church, Shortbridge Street, on Saturday, 12 March, 10am - noon. Tickets are £1.
Shop to close
THE Shop Llani Fairways will be closing down in March. The directors, Mrs Jennifer Morrison, Mrs Mary Oliver and Mrs Sheila Williams would like to thank all those donors and purchasers who have supported them in the last eight years in raising almost £24,000 for charitable causes.
Only Legs Aloud
LAST year was another successful year for Llani’s Only Legs Aloud Club. Membership increased to 400, who now get for the professional attention of the district nurses who care for any person who has leg ailments.The Leg Club has enjoyed excellent outings with a good selection of meals organised by Mori and Margaret and their assistants, with the splendid services of Celtic Travel. The ever faithful Dianne keeps them very well nourished with beverages and treats, not only at the club but also at bingo sessions organised by Lindy at the Rugby Club. Thanks to their staff for the use of their premises.At the yearly Leg Club Conference in Worcester they had another award to add to their collection. This was for the dedicated services of their volunteers.The Leg Club year ended up with another excellent seasonal meal. This one at Maesmawr, Caersws, thanking the district nurses who look after them, the volunteers for their dedication and the members. From 1 February, the Leg Club, held at the Van Institute, will be opening at the new time of 8.30am until 11.30am.
Coffee morning
CYTUN, Churches Together held a coffee morning for the Llanidloes Refugee Fund, at Chatwood, Longbridge Street on 16 January, 10am - 12.30pm. There was crumpets and toast and cakes for sale and £341.77 was raised.
Lectures
FIVE lectures by Dr David Stephenson, on Mediaeval Empires of West Africa, are being held in the Royal Head (The Kings) on Tuesdays (7pm - 9pm), and Wednesdays (2pm - 4pm) in the Mount Inn, starting 13 January.Macmillan F & K TAXIS collected for Macmillan Cancer Support during their busy festive period. Woosnam & Davies News have passed on the donation of £31.83 to the Macmillan cancer appeal and thanked Fizz and Kim of F & K taxis.
Royal British Legion
THE Ladies section enjoyed their Christmas lunch at the Royal Head.Polly Evans said the exhortation. The ladies held a raffle with winners being Lena Manuel, Polly Evans, Mary Davies, Francis, Sally Woods, Tanya Davies, Angela Morgan, Margaret Grosvenor, Viv Williams, Trudy Dav-ies, Chris Powers and Ann Davies. All raffle prizes were donated by members and friends of the British Legion. The next meeting will be the first Wednesday in February at the Old Mill (Workman’s Club) on High Street starting at 1.45pm where Polly Evans will be providing entertainment in the form of a quiz. welcome.
FRANTIC Theatre made a return appearance at Maesywennol Daycentre, Llanidloes, and gave another energetic one-person show with costume changes, puppetry, powerful singing and dancing that kept everyone interested.Frantic specialises in giving exciting in-house drama to the people, from a multitude of characters including a singing nun.The entertaintment provided by Frantic Theatre included this singing nun (pictured)
