An Aberystwyth lollipop lady and teaching assistant has been handed an award for her long service.

Dawn Davies, an ever-present figure on Llanbadarn Road outside St Padarn’s Catholic Primary School, hung up her lollipop last month after 13 years.

Before she did, colleagues had the chance to praise her at the Road Safety Wales Conference, where she was awarded with an award for her long-standing service and commitment as the school crossing patrol officer.

Dawn was nominated for this award by her colleagues at Ceredigion County Council’s road safety team. She has now stepped down from her position to begin a new chapter in her life.

Kayleigh Tonkins, a member of the road safety team, said: “A big thank you to Dawn from all her colleagues in the road safety team, she has been a pleasure to work with and will be sorely missed by the pupils old and new.

“This award is just a small recognition to the hard work and dedication she has shown to the safety of the pupils at St Padarn’s come rain or shine.”
