TWO long-serving members of Dolgellau Town Council have stood down.
Cllrs Linda Morgan and Delwyn Evans (pictured) confirmed their decision at the council’s AGM on 11 May.
Cllr Morgan has been a member of the town council for over 30 years. She will remain Gwynedd county councillor for Dolgellau South.
In her retirement letter to Dolgellau Town Council clerk, Rhys Williams, Cllr Morgan said: “I have enjoyed every moment as a town councillor over the last 34 years and especially as mayor on three occasions.
“This is the best time for me to leave as there are seven people interested in joining the town council, which is good news.
“I have enjoyed working for this council. When I was at school and a teenager I always wanted to join the town council. My mum and dad encouraged me. I have found it very rewarding and I like helping people.
“It has been a privilege to work alongside a dedicated and effective committee who are concerned about our community and want to help improve it and make sure that people’s views are heard and taken into account and represent the interest of electors of our lovely town.”
Cllr Delwyn Evans joined the town council in 2007 and has been mayor of the town for five of those years.
He said: “I was lucky to be elected mayor and have been lucky to hold this office many times since then. I would like to thank my fellow councillors for the privilege of leading them over the years “Mostly I must thank the people of Dolgellau who had faith in me. I hope that over the years I have worked for the people of Dolgellau and that I have been able to help them if contacted about any subject pertaining to Dolgellau.”
Also at the meeting, Cllr John Raghoobar was elected mayor for the coming year. Cllr John Cadwaladr was elected deputy mayor.
