A BEDDGELERT man purposely drowned himself in a lake, a coroner has ruled.
Keith Burgess went missing from his home, Gwyndy Bach, on Saturday, 10 October, 2015 and was found dead at Llyn Dinas by a diver from the North West Underwater Search Unit four days later.
Pc Barry Davies told an inquest in Caernarfon that he was asked to visit the 64-year-old’s home on Tuesday, 13 October after family and friends became concerned about his whereabouts.
He said: “His family and friends had become concerned as they’d not seen Mr Burgess for a few days which was described as out of character for him.
“When I visited his address the house was all locked up but his car had gone. We then located his car at Llyn Dinas.
“The vehicle was also locked and, as I couldn’t see anyone around the lake, I requested a search team.
“I could see also see through the car window that a note had been left on the passenger side.”
The note found in Mr Burgess’ car described how he was not in a good place in his life and described what was irritating him.
A search was carried out around the area by north Wales’s police officers, members of the Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue Team, Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team, RAF Valley Mountain Rescue Team and the Search and Rescue Dog Association.
Around 7pm diver Mark Clifford Sherman, of Cheshire Constabulary North West Underwater Marine Unit, discovered Mr Burgess’ body at the bottom of the lake.
Pathologist Dr Mark Lord told the court that he carried out a post-mortem on Mr Burgess’ body on 15 October, 2015 and recorded that he had died as a result of drowning.
North West Wales’s coroner Dewi Pritchard Jones told the court that police had discovered Mr Burgess had left several notes on his belongings at his home which were marked to be sent to various different people.
He said: “It is clear that Mr Burgess had put his affairs in order before leaving his home and there is also the note he left in his car.
“From the evidence I have seen and heard, I believe Mr Burgess deliberately entered the lake and drowned himself.
“There is no evidence of any other person involved in his death and nothing to suggest it was an accident.
“The verdict I must give is that Mr Burgess killed himself.”If you have been distressed or disturbed by this report, you can ring the Samaritans on 08457 909090.
