Editor,
As current chairperson of Ceredigion Constituency Labour Party I feel I have to respond to the letter from former Labour party member Mark Rees.
Prior to Jeremy Corbyn becoming leader, the Labour Party in Ceredigion had deteriorated to a position where all the branches had effectively closed down and only one meeting of the CLP took place on a monthly basis attended by fewer than ten members.
Following the inclusion of Jeremy Corbyn on the leadership ballot, the membership of Ceredigion Constituency Labour Party increased ten-fold. Over 1,100 members, supporters and affiliates were eligible to vote at the recent leadership nomination meeting which I chaired at the Victoria Hall in Lampeter.
All members of both constituted branches were informed of the candidates. The CLP voted overwhelmingly to nominate Rebecca Long Bailey for leader and Richard Burgon for deputy leader.
If Mr Rees had remained a member of the party he could have come along to the nomination meeting and voiced his opinions against the candidacy of Rebecca and Richard.
Since the General Election party membership in Ceredigion has continued to grow. The election result was disappointing but I would remind Mr Rees that 10.4 million people voted Labour under Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership. If you are interested in being part of a party that believes in a socialist future then come and join us, you will be warmly welcomed.
