A POIGNANT football match remembering a much-loved father-of-two will help raise money for two important causes.

Kristian Ley Roberts, a 38-year-old chef from Tremadog, will be remembered by his friends and relatives at a memorial game at the end of April.

Kristian died last September whilst cycling to work, devastating the local community.

He had been found unconscious on the roadside of the A487, between Minffordd and Penrhyndeudraeth, and is believed to have passed away of natural causes despite being in “excellent” physical health.

The father of two young children, Inti Quimey and Merni Ley, worked as a pastry chef at Portmeirion and was recognised as a dedicated worker and family man.

The idea for the football match was conceived by Kristian’s father, Stanley, who considered it a fitting tribute for his sports-loving son, a former pupil at Ysgol Eifionydd.

“Kristian was heavily involved in the youth set-up at Porthmadog when he was a teenager, so we’ve managed to bring together his teammates from his time at Porthmadog between 1981 and 1984,” Stanley told the Cambrian News.

“They’ll be playing against Llanystumdwy Legends, another team close to Kristian’s heart.

“All profits will go towards the Welsh Air Ambulance - who do such vital work - and Gafael Llaw, a children’s cancer charity.”
