Misunderstandings have arisen amongst residents and town councillors in Dolgellau surrounding what was originally thought to be a fly-tipping issue, but turned out to be a scheduled waste collection.
Residents of Well Street, Dolgellau, had been confronted with an ongoing waste problem as heaps of household items continued to be left outside a nearby restaurant for some weeks.
Items such as mattresses, carpets and toilet seats had been routinely left outside of the Lemongrass restaurant in Finsbury Square, which is located at the top of Well Street.
Dylan Jones, who lives on the street, explained that the waste had been lingering for around 10 weeks, adding that there had been “lots of tension brewing” amongst residents of the street over the issue as waste had continued to build up.
On Thursday, 4 June the issue was eventually addressed as the police and Gwynedd council removed the items.
Dylan said that, after observing the building up of fly-tipped waste, “I called the police, who called at the scene shortly afterwards.
“A combination of the police and Gwynedd Council’s Street Enforcement Team persuaded the perpetrators to clear up the mess within an hour. I am content for now that the issue is resolved.”
Delwyn Evans, mayor of Dolgellau, initially contacted Gwynedd Council regarding what was believed to be a fly-tipping issue. He described the amount of items dumped as “disgraceful” and remarked that he and other town councillors had been proactive in trying to get the issue dealt with by the county council.
