Graham Tottle’s letter (‘Abandon £19 million white elephant’, Letters, 19 November) stating that all that’s needed is traffic lights for transit through for traffic to the airfield and Shell Island would be easy.
What about the road that goes to Bryn Deiliog Estate and the back road to Dyffryn? Or the road leading up to Pentre Gwynfryn, Cwm Bychan and Cwm Nantcol? How would traffic lights come into effect for those roads? These two link-roads are also bottlenecks and create a build-up of traffic. Especially during the summer season, which creates more pollution, emissions and ‘road rage’.
You must also ask, where would the locals who live on the main highway park their cars if there was a traffic light system set up on the bridge? Would there not have to be a four-way system - at a minimum two-minute delay at each traffic light! Would this not cause more emissions?
And, as I gather, nearly all in the village have been behind this bypass for many years. Especially now as tourism is a major factor for the area and thus creating more traffic.
Would it not be far more pleasant for those who reside in the village?
A much better and easier road link to the airfield would also help with job prospects and infrastructure connections for the area.
May I also ask, do we have a gas main in Llanbedr? I have lived here 53 years and that’s a new one on me.
