CALLS are being made for all mobile phone providers to speed-up the rollout of 4G services in and around Porthmadog.

MP Liz Saville Roberts says it is imperative that a community the size of Porthmadog, whose population soars during the summer months, had access to fast and reliable mobile data.

Other towns in Gwynedd such as Blaenau Ffestiniog and Caernarfon have recently benefited from mobile infrastructure investment.

Mrs Saville Roberts has already had meetings with several network providers to lobby for improvements and is urging the big four mobile firms, Vodafone, EE, Three and O2, to do more to help bridge the digital divide between rural and urban communities.

She said: “In today’s advancing digital economy, where more and more people are doing business online while on the move, it’s vital people are able to access mobile data, irrespective of where they live.

“While we’ve seen some improvements in mobile connectivity over recent months, much more needs to be done to better connect our rural communities."
