A FUND-RAISING concert in Aberdaron showcasing the best in folk and Welsh music has raised £1,000 for North West Cancer Research.

Hundreds gathered to enjoy a night of music for the 25th anniversary of the annual event recently.

Held at Aberdaron’s Sailing Club and popular amongst locals and tourists, the well-known concert is an essential part of the holiday to returning visitors to nearby campsites during the summer holidays.

Since 1992 the concert which runs for six weeks, has raised thousands of pounds to support local charities.

This year £1,000 has been raised through ticket sales and raffles. The money will be donated to this year’s chosen charity North West Cancer Research, to support life-saving cancer research in the region.

The Aberdaron Concert is organised Gwenda Williams, after taking the reins from her mother-in-law Minnie Williams who has organised the event since its inception. Keeping it in the family, Minnie’s granddaughter has also given her time to make this year’s concert a success.

Gwenda said: “Since my mother-in-law started the concert with her friends 25 years ago, it has grown from a one night event, to the six-week-long showing it is today."
