Aberdyfi Croquet Club held a season launch celebration on the village’s Recreation Ground this week to celebrate winning a grant.

The grant from Sports Wales Lottery fund has paid for new croquet equipment in time for the start of the new season.

Robert Brodbelt, founder member of the croquet club, said: “There has been a croquet lawn at Aberdyfi Recreation Ground for several years now and there are now two very well-kept lawns.

“Our lawns are in excellent condition but over the years the equipment at the ground had become a little tired, despite our efforts to keep it going.

“We wanted to encourage more people to come and play croquet so we decided to make an application for a grant for some new equipment.

“We applied to the Community Chest which is a Sports Wales Lottery initiative which provides funding for community and physical activity.

“The grants are administered by Gwynedd Council and we were delighted that the application was successful. We now have a set of high quality croquet balls and hoops.

“We are very pleased to welcome Aberdyfi Community Council chairman Dave Williams to our club today to celebrate with us at the start of the Croquet season."

“Croquet is a game for everyone and all ages can play from about six years old upwards. We play seven days a week from May to October.

“For beginners the best time to come is on a Wednesday afternoon when free tuition is available and there is always tea and cake afterwards.

“A session usually lasts about two hours – you can pay a fee of £3 on the day or buy a season ticket.

“We now look forward to a new croquet season and also we welcome and hope to see lots of new faces at our club at the Aberdyfi Recreational Ground.”
